BEYOND

Bold Exploration of Yet-to-be-realized Operational Nitrides

BEYOND is a research group focused on pioneering Nitride devices that drive the future of semiconductor technology. We explore new frontiers in efficiency, performance, and integration, with applications spanning sustainability, AI, and quantum systems.

About us

Our group’s core expertise lies in the development of nitride-based electronic devices, where we have contributed to advancing high-performance transistors and heterostructures. Building on this foundation, we are now broadening our efforts—together with collaborators across academia, national labs, and industry—to explore new directions where nitrides offer unique advantages.

  • AI-Enabled Hardware: Developing neuromorphic and ferroelectric nitride devices that could provide energy-efficient and adaptive components for next-generation computing.
  • Quantum Devices: Exploring opportunities for nitrides in quantum technologies, from ferroelectric switching to defect-based quantum states and superconducting heterostructures.
  • AI for Device Modeling: Leveraging neural networks to model and predict nitride device behavior, accelerating design cycles and guiding experimental efforts.
  • MEMS and Microsystems: Leveraging the exceptional mechanical and piezoelectric properties of nitrides for high-frequency resonators, sensors, and actuators.
  • Optoelectronics and Photonics: Investigating wide-bandgap nitride materials for emitters, detectors, and integrated photonic structures across the visible and ultraviolet spectrum.

Our goals

Through close collaboration with partners in diverse fields—is to extend the role of nitrides beyond traditional electronics and optoelectronics, enabling applications that span from communications and sensing to quantum information and intelligent systems.
In the BEYOND group, we work hard, stay curious, and support each other. We really value people who are kind, creative, and motivated, and who enjoy tackling challenges together. If you’re excited about pushing the limits of nitride research while being part of a friendly and collaborative team, you’ll fit right in here.
